sweet & salty first birthday.

sweet & salty first birthday.

Invitation (I made it with photoshop)

Everyone knows that first birthdays are for the parents and adults that attend, right? So, as Emma's birthday QUICKLY came after Christmas I had to think fast about what was important to me and what I could do that would be sweet, showcase my angel, and be fun! My mom had the brilliant idea of a "salty and sweet" theme which I also added a little princess flair!

I wanted the party to be shabby chic-ish and I wanted to keep it simple.  Jeff and I both have such large and wonderfully involved families nothing we do can be small (so we had the party at my parents house).  In fact, we had the party a couple of weeks after Emma's actual party so her cousins from New York and Fort Worth could attend!!  By simple I mean that I kept with a very SIMPLE menu of Salty and Sweet foods- as you will soon see.  There were a lot of details and crafts that I did before so as the party neared it didn't seem as overwhelming.

Some of the things I did well in advance:  Burlap Birthday wreath (that I plan to use for all my families birthday months), Poms, her birthday hat (THAT WE FORGOT TO PUT ON HER), her party favor labels my in-laws stuffed the cheerios and cuties the night before (another photoshop creation... ps I totally made that up all on my own - no pinterest!), and I made a video with all of our iphone/video camera footage/pictures of her first year (that took me FOREVER... but I am so thankful that I did it!).

On the front porch my mom had cute lemons and limes in some of her pots that didn't have flowers and I also added my fun decorative gifts to spice it up!
Emma was blessed with so many sweet gifts. I had the dining room table filled with pictures of Emma including one from each month (I used the numbers to decorate with as well).

After making what I had planned to make and other people bringing wonderful dishes we ended up having A LOT of food!

My sweet friend Caleigh with Paisley & Plaid made the delicious princess cupcakes and smash cake.

We had the rims of the glasses "glitzed" with my cousin Eliza's new product Glass Glitz!

While most of these recipes I found on pinterest... sweet Shelby made the fabulous oreo balls!
My mother-in-law brought a cheese tray and my mom helped me pull it ALL together- did all the flowers- as well as making homemade salsa!

My precious mom and mother-in-law doing all the "last minutes" - I couldn't have done it without them and Jeff, of course!

Here are some party pics- THANK GOD my sweet friend Sarah Myrick came and took some fabulous shots throughout the party. Pictures mean SO much to me and she seriously caught some of the sweetest moments. She is beyond talented, and is gorgeous (inside and out)!

One idea that I had seen on a blog a LONG time ago.. wish I had the link... was this cute "game".  We layed out items that represented professions that Emma "might choose" when she grows up.  We had her crawl to them and whichever she picked is what we would assume her future profession might be. Her choices were: medicine, engineering, teacher, chef, and law.  Here's what it looked like...

She went for the apple... so TEACHER! Her pappy (my dad) suggested she have a backup so she chose medicine! It was a fun little activity that Emma could participate in!

We then opened gifts! Emma is so blessed!

Lastly, she ate her smash cake... which she was set up like the princess she is!

It was a wonderful celebration of the most precious princess in all the land, Emma Grace.

Our prayer is that she know that we love her more than anything on this earth but more importantly that her heavenly father loves her MORE than we can even comprehend.

Happy Birthday baby girl!

 The end, I promise!
